Musings from the last week
I still have to finish watching videos of the NFL Combine to offer my thoughts on it. Life happens some times. Hopefully this weekend.
I was one of those people that thought that the Cleveland Cavaliers was a nice story but, lets see what happens come playoff time. Specifically when it comes to playing Boston (assuming that these two teams meet up in the ECF). Last Thursday, February 28th, The Cavs showed me that they are legit. Boston dominated Cleveland in the first 5 minutes of the game. With 7:12 to go in the first quarter, Boston had a 25-3 lead. Cleveland would end up winning 123-116. A 29 point turnaround. The Cavs are now 12-3 against the teams that I would consider elite. (Boston, OKC, LA Lakers, Memphis) They started the season on a 15 game winning streak, and currently have a 12 game winning streak. Cleveland is legit.
Speaking of the Cavs, they have already clinched a playoff spot. Which is pretty unreal considering that there are 20 games left in their season.
I checked out TGL on Tuesday for the first time. For those that don’t know, TGL is the golf league that was founded by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Mike McCarley. A very interesting concept. It’s virtual golf until you get around the green area and then you chip or putt from there. Each hole is an original design that looks like something me and friends would create in previous golf games on a computer. The green area is really cool.
From Wikipedia: When a shot on the screen lands within approximately 50 yards of the "pin," play transitions to this tech-infused green surface that rotates and adjusts depending on the hole's projected design. The synthetic green and neighboring real-sand bunkers are positioned on a 360-degree rotating turntable measuring 41 yards in diameter. Underneath the surface, about 600 motorized actuators adjust the contours and slope to match the hole's dictated layout. Based on how the ball lies on the screen's "green surface," overhead LED spotlights illuminate the spot on the turntable where the ball must be placed.
The playoffs are next week and I fully intend on watching. The one match that I saw caught my attention enough to warrant watching more.
I am a Chicago Bears fan and I am pretty happy at the moves that were done the last few days. I thought getting Jonah Jackson was a good move and would be the only deal until free agency starts March 10th. And then they went out and traded for Joe Thuney. The Bears just went and added a couple of new starters to the O-Line that absolutely needed an upgrade.
Some other notable happenings in regards to NFL free agency. Saquan Barkley signed a huge extension and well deserved at that. 2 years and $41.2 million! Deebo Samuel was traded to Washington. A good move for them as they try and improve on the good year they had in ‘24. Maxx Crosby signed an enormous contract extension with the Raiders to the tune of 3 years and $106.5 million. One of the only bright spots for Las Vegas. Tyler Lockett and Joey Bosa are among the bigger names that were released ahead of the free agency period.
