NFL Free Agency and aew revolution

Nfl free agency

The “legal tampering period” of NFL Free Agency started on Monday and some immediate changes coming for a few different franchises.

I have to put the homer glasses on and talk about the Chicago Bears first. Trading for Jonah Jackson and Joe Thuney were already good deals. I think Jackson will have a better year than he did in 2024. It had been rumored for a couple weeks that Drew Dalman, the free agent Center from Atlanta would sign with the Bears. And that is what happened. a three year, $42 million contract. And just like that, three of the five O-Linemen from last year have been upgraded in the span of 5 days. Add in Edge rusher Dayo Odeyingbo and DT Grady Jarrett and things are looking up in Chicago.

Staying in the NFC North for a second; I like what Minnesota has done so far. Re-signing RB Aaron Jones and CB Byron Murphy were good moves. Getting Guard Will Fries and DT Jonathan Allen were nice hauls as well.

The team formerly known as the Redskins have done pretty well for themselves too. Getting WR Deebo Samual and OT Laremy Tunsil are very solid moves. Tunsil is Especially a good move considering that Jayden Daniels was sacked 47 times in 2024, which was sixth most in the league. Re-signing Bobby Wagner was good for the Commanders because he can still play and has that veteran presence. The Commanders signing Javon Kinlaw is a slightly under-rated signing but I think it will work out great for them. The Eagles gave everyone the blue print. Now teams will try and copy that.

The Patriots have had a good off-season so far. Going from Mayo to Vrabel as the head coach alone is worth an A. What do you get a defensive-minded coach on a team that struggled defensively? You go out and spend money on that side of the ball. Edge Harold Landry, DT Milton Williams, DT Khyiris Tonga, CB Carlton Davis and Robert Spillane. They also signed WR Mack Hollins although, they will have to sign or draft another receiver.

Houston has had an interesting off-season so far. Traded away Laremy Tunsil and OG Kenyon Green. Interesting for sure because, CJ Stroud was sacked the second most of any QB this past season. They got CJ Gardner-Johnson from moving on from Kenyon Green. A huge move to help out with their secondary. They signed quite a few guys on the defensive line. I assume that they will address the O-Line in the draft.

Daniel Jones signed a contract with the Indianapolis Colts. I think that’s a good move for them. I was a Jones truther when the Giants drafted him. He had that one good year and then the wheels fell off. And it’s still early in Anthony Richardson’s career but, I feel like Jones will push Richardson for the starting job. Jones record as a starter is terrible. He at least has 70 TD’s to 47 Interceptions. Compared to Richardson who has 11 TD’s and 13 Int’s. Way smaller sample size obviously. Richardson’s 2024 season was simply not good even though his record was 6-5. 8 TD’s to 12 Int’s for a 2:3 TD/Int ratio. He also had a paltry 47.7 completion percentage. I was not high on Richardson entering the draft. And he still has time to grow. He absolutely would have benefited from sitting behind a veteran for at least one year. I realize that teams don’t do that much any more.

aew revolution

I decided to purchase Revolution on Sunday before the start time. Glad that I did. It was a good event…until the main event.

MJF and “Hangman” Adam Page was a good opener. Expected from both of these two wrestlers. I am curious to see where the two go from here. MJF ate the loss but it doesn’t damage who he is because of how great he is. Perhaps Page is done with the loose cannon gimmick and goes back to being re-born as it were?

Momo Watanabe vs Mercedes Mone was next. A bit clunky to start but it really started to settle in mid-way through. I give Mercedes a lot of credit. Some of those kicks from Momo were connecting pretty hard. Especially the one that seemed to hit Mercedes right in the jaw. Mercedes retains the TBS Title.

Swerve Strickland vs Ricochet. Ricochet is as vanilla as it gets as a face. But man has this man delivered as a heel. My goodness. This was a good match. Ricochet is such a good wrestler and so is Swerve. Swerve won the match which means he is the number one contender for the AEW World Championship. Where does Ricochet go from here?

Brody King and Okada for the Continental Championship was kind of a let down for me. It just wasn’t that good of a match honestly that could not keep my attention. I love both Brody and Okada, which made the let down worse. Okada retains the title. More on that in a bit.

I am not a fan of The Outrunners and I hope that this match ends their mini push. They lost to the Hurt Syndicate and it was much closer than it had any right to be. I would love to see Brody King and Buddy Matthews be next for the Hurt Syndicate. I think that would be a good match.

“Timeless” Toni Storm vs Mariah May for the AEW Women’s Championship was by far the match of the night! By far might be a stretch because there was another incredible match a bit later but…wow! Definitely match of the night. These two ladies did an incredible job. Although, I was legit concerned with the broken bottle to Toni Storm’s inner thigh. I know that a lot of these weapons are gimmicked but there is still a real chance at something bad happening. So glad she made it through that safely. Storm retained the title and as with a couple other times throughout the night; I wonder where both of these ladies go from here. Mariah has been amazing this entire run. Both at the side of Toni Storm and facing her. And who is next to challenge Toni?

It wasn’t the greatest match in Omega’s repertoire but it still delivered. I’d like to see Omega move on from the Don Callis feud now. If the rumors are true that they may merge the Continental Championship with the International Championship (The Interconti-national Championship?), Omega and Okada have the chance to have a great match, as they have many times before.

Will Osprey and Kyle Fletcher inside a steel cage. What a match! I think that it’s safe to say that Kyle Fletcher is the future of wrestling. And Will Osprey ain’t too bad himself! I’m kidding of course as Osprey is amazing as well. I just love how vocal Fletcher is when he wrestles! All the little screams he does when he executes a move is incredible. It may not be every bodies cup of tea and I’m quite certain that if someone else did it, I’d find it annoying. But, I love when Fletcher does it. Osprey got the win and the Don Callis family went 0-2 in matches at Revolution. What will that fall out be like?

And then the main event. Ugh. For the AEW World Championship, Jon Moxley vs Adam Copeland. I refuse to shorten Adam’s name. This match was…something. I love both of these guys. I love Mox’s unhingedness. I love the fact that Copeland was able to come back to wrestling and is doing it because he loves it. This was just not a good match. For me, it didn’t pick up until Christian came in and cashed in his Money In The Bank Contract. And then he proceeded to lose when he was choked out by the Champ. And I knew before the event that Wheeler Yuta would come out to try and benefit Jon. Could see that a mile away with the set-up. Prince Nana came out and distracted Jon when he went through the crowd, allowing Swerve to double-stomp the champ and declare that this is his house. Still, a very bad main event. I’m not sure what the plan was for the Death Riders. It feels like what they planned to do with them fell through. And like with most things where AEW is concerned, they never seem to have a back-up plan when things go sideways. It would be nice to see this go somewhere though.
